Another major highlight of my trip to Cali is I met my 80 year old uncle and other family members for the first time! They say you don’t know where you’re going unless you know where you come from. I didn’t think at 34 I would still be uncovering aspects of my identity but the reality of life is that each day is another opportunity for growth and self discovery! (at Compton, California)

Last week I took my first trip to Cali and it took me awhile to get back into the shake of things in ATL. Part of it was the time difference but the major part of it was the life changing moments that would occur while I was there. At 34 you start to accept the some voids in life may never be filled and you just learn HEALTHY ways of coping and moving forward. One of the major events of my life that would change me forever would be the death of my grandmother and all that would come to follow. This is would be the last time I would see my 4 year old niece. I was young but when a little person becomes part of your daily responsibilities, that person becomes a piece of you! Following my grandmother’s death she would be put up for adoption and my family and I wound search for her for years. My uncle searched for 20+ year and when he passed away, I gave up all hope. Then a little over a year ago she found us on social media! Now my life would come full circle and during a trip to see an old friend, I would finally reconnect with my niece after 24yrs! It warmed my heart that she became such an amazing woman and ended up with a loving and carrying family! God is great! (at Long Beach, California)
